Kamasi Washington is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader born and raised in Los Angeles. His three previous works - "The Epic", "Harmony of Difference", an EP originally commissioned for the 2017 Whitney Biennial, and "Heaven and Earth" - are among the most acclaimed works of this century. "As Told To G/D Thyself", his short film for Heaven and Earth, premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and received great acclaim. In 2020, Washington set music to the Michelle Obama documentary „Becoming", earning Emmy and Grammy nominations for his work. Also in 2020, Washington, along with his longtime friends and colleagues Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and 9th Wonder, founded the supergroup Dinner Party, whose EP "Dinner Party (Dessert)" was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Progressive R&B Album category. In 2021, Washington contributed a cover of Metallica's "My Friend of Misery" to Metallica's Blacklist cover project. Washington tours worldwide and has collaborated and shared the stage with Kendrick Lamar, Florence + the Machine, Herbie Hancock - with whom he will curate the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Fest for the second year in a row - and many others. His new album "Fearless Movement", inspired by dance and the birth of his first daughter, will be released on May 3rd on Young.
